Three major new tools just landed in the free toolbox: PDF Editor — a complete PDF studio that edits a PDF's own text and images, designs documents from templates and builds fillable forms; Edit PDF — a quick visual editor where you hover any element on the page and move, restyle or delete it; and Meme Generator — a Quick and Studio meme maker with 100+ viral templates, unlimited text layers, stickers, filters and even animated GIF and video memes. All three are completely free: no sign-up, no daily limits, no watermarks — and everything runs in your browser, so your files never leave your device. We opened all three, pushed real files through them, and wrote up every feature below — including the honest limits most tool pages bury.
The short version
- PDF Editor (PDF Studio) is the flagship: edit existing PDFs, design from six templates, add signatures, QR codes, tables and real fillable form fields, merge files, then export — optionally locked with AES-256 password protection.
- Edit PDF is the fast lane: hover anything on the page — text, images, even drawn shapes — click to select it, then move, resize, recolour or delete it. No panels to learn.
- Meme Generator does quick memes in under a minute and full studio memes with layers, stickers, filters, a dedicated Deep Fry button, and animated GIF/video memes from your own clips.
- Free means free: no accounts, no credits, no usage caps, no watermarks on anything you export. The only limits are technical ones (device memory, upload sizes for animated memes) — listed openly in this report.

PDF Editor: a complete PDF studio in one browser tab
PDF Editor — the header inside the tool calls it PDF Studio — is the biggest of the three: less a single-purpose utility, more a small design-and-document workshop. Open any PDF and the studio maps the page's own content: every line of existing text and every embedded image becomes clickable. Or skip existing files entirely, create a document from a blank page size, or start from one of six designed templates. Everything — opening, editing, designing, exporting — happens in your browser tab.
PDF Studio with a document open: the page on canvas, tools down the left, and the Pages, Properties and Layers panels a click away. Click the screenshot to open the studio.
Editing what is already in the PDF
With the Select tool, click any object on the page — objects you added, and the PDF's own text and images (shown with faint outlines) — and work on it from the Properties panel. Existing text can be edited: the studio covers the original line and drops in an editable text box with the same words at about the same size, ready to retype. Existing images can be deleted (covered), replaced with a new picture fitted into exactly the same space, or lifted as a movable copy you can drag elsewhere. Objects can be moved, resized, rotated, recoloured, duplicated and re-layered; a drag-box (marquee) selects several at once, and Shift+click adds or removes individual objects.
That cover-and-replace approach is the honest version of what every browser-based PDF editor does, and the studio says so on its own page: the covered original still exists underneath the cover in the exported file. Visually it is gone — but if content must be destroyed rather than hidden (true redaction), the separate Redact PDF tool is the right one. We count the openness as a feature.
Adding your own content
The left-hand toolbar covers the full annotation and design kit:
- Text boxes that wrap and reflow as you resize them — right for addresses, terms and blocks of copy — with colour-range highlighting available inside the text editor.
- Image frames: draw a rectangle, rounded or circular frame, drop in a picture, and it is cover-fitted and clipped to the frame shape in the export too; double-click the frame to drag the photo into position.
- Shapes and freehand drawing, plus a dedicated Highlight tool and Whiteout for quick visual covers.
- Signatures: draw in the sign pad with mouse, finger or stylus; the signature is placed on the page as an image — a visual stamp, not a cryptographic signature.
- QR codes: paste a link or short text and the code is generated on your device and placed on the page as an image.
- Tables: set rows, columns and a header row, insert — or place a table on the page with the Table tool.
Adding your own content in PDF Studio: a text box placed on the page and styled from the Properties panel. Click the screenshot to try it.
Real fillable forms, not pictures of forms
The feature that lifts PDF Studio above most free editors: the form fields you add are genuine fillable (AcroForm) fields — text, multiline, checkbox, radio and dropdown — that work in any PDF reader and in the Fill PDF Form tool. A signature box exports as a real signature field, and a date field exports as a text field with the date format shown as a hint. The studio also detects fillable forms when a PDF opens. If you have ever printed a "fillable" form because the fields were fake, this is the fix.
Templates and page sizes for creating from scratch
Creating new gives you six page sizes — A4, Letter, A4 landscape, Presentation 16:9, Instagram Post (square) and Instagram Story — and six editable templates: a certificate, an invoice, an event poster, a one-page resume, an Instagram post and a business flyer. Every template element is ordinary text or shapes, so every word can be changed. Fonts travel with the file: Helvetica, Times and Courier need no embedding; the design fonts (Montserrat, Playfair Display, Dancing Script — all open-licensed) are embedded into the export, and the font menu offers 136 Google Fonts that load on demand and embed the same way.
Pages, merging and export
From the Pages panel you can rotate, duplicate, reorder or delete pages, insert blanks, and merge whole extra PDFs into the current document with Add PDF — keeping the edits you already made on earlier pages. The Page & Export panel stamps a watermark and page numbers across all pages. Export lets you set the file name and optionally protect the PDF with a password — real AES-256 encryption via the open-source QPDF engine. One thoughtful touch: every exported PDF carries an embedded copy of the editable project, so reopening the file in the studio restores every object and field as fully editable (the file is somewhat larger for it).
Working comforts: Simplifier, layers and shortcuts
A Simplifier mode merges a page's text into large document blocks for Word-like editing — it detects form PDFs automatically and switches itself off for them. A Layers panel lists everything on the page. Page setup offers margins, units (points, millimetres, inches), rulers, printable-area and centre-line guides — all view-only; guides never appear in the export. And the keyboard is fully wired: Ctrl/⌘+Z undo and redo, Ctrl/⌘+S to export, Ctrl/⌘+D to duplicate, bracket keys for layer order, arrow keys to nudge 1 pt (10 pt with Shift), Enter or F2 to edit selected text, PgUp/PgDn to change page, Esc to deselect.
A worked example
A tenant receives a rental agreement as a PDF. In PDF Studio she fills in the date with the Text tool, draws her signature in the Sign pad and stamps it on the last page, adds a page-number footer for the printed copy, and exports a password-protected PDF — one document, one tab, no printer, no scanner, and no separate app for each step.
PDF Studio's honest limits
- Original text and images are edited by covering, not rewriting — the original remains under the cover. For permanent removal, use Redact PDF.
- Whiteout is a visual cover only, for the same reason.
- A placed signature is a picture of your signature, not a certified digital signature — no certificate or tamper detection.
- Very large documents are limited by your device's memory; split huge files first.
- Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked before they can open in the studio.
Edit PDF: the quick visual editor
If PDF Studio is the workshop, Edit PDF is the power tool you grab for one job. Open a PDF and hover the page: every element under your cursor — a headline, a logo, a drawn shape, even a thin line — lights up, ready to select. Click to select it, drag to move it, pull the corner handles to resize it, use the handle above it to rotate it. The floating toolbar and the right-hand panel restyle it: colours, fill, line width, opacity, font size. Double-click a text block to retype it. That is the whole learning curve.
Edit PDF doing its party trick: an original element of the page selected, handles out, ready to move, resize, recolour or delete. Click the screenshot to open the editor.
What you can select — and what you can add
Selectable originals include text blocks, embedded images, and the vector shapes the page was drawn with — filled header bands, outlines, thin rules and small marks included. Hovering highlights the smallest element under the cursor, so a tiny shape sitting on a big one is still grabbable. On top of that, six modes add your own content:
| Mode | What it does |
|---|---|
| Select | Hover-select originals and anything you added; move, resize, rotate, restyle, duplicate, delete |
| Text | Type, then click to place new text on the page |
| Draw | Freehand vector strokes |
| Shapes | Rectangles, ellipses, stars, clouds, arrows and more |
| Mark text | Highlight, underline and strikethrough that snap onto the text line |
| Insert | Place an image where you click |
Page thumbnails on the left let you rotate, duplicate or delete pages and add blank ones. Everything you add is drawn as genuine PDF content — typed text is embedded as selectable text, shapes and pen strokes as vector paths, highlights as translucent marks snapped to the text — nothing is flattened into a picture of the page. Page operations copy pages without re-rendering them, so untouched content keeps its exact quality.
How Edit PDF handles originals
The editor never rewrites the PDF's internals. Moving or deleting an original element covers its old spot with the surrounding page background colour and places an editable copy you can change freely — the same honest approach as PDF Studio. Two consequences worth knowing: a moved text block is re-set in the closest standard font family (Helvetica, Times or Courier, with its size, weight and colour), so letterforms can differ slightly from the document's embedded font; and a flat colour patch is invisible on plain backgrounds but can show on busy patterns or gradients. Grouped artwork from design software is detected element by element, as it was drawn. Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked first.
A worked example
A transport company's letterhead needs work: the logo sits too low, a stray line crosses the page, and the title needs to shrink. The owner hovers the logo until it lights up, drags it into place, clicks the stray line and deletes it, selects the title text and reduces it — then downloads a corrected letterhead, all without the original design software.
PDF Studio or Edit PDF — which one do you open?
| Your job | Open | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Move, recolour or delete something on one page | Edit PDF | Hover-select is the fastest route to a small fix |
| Fill, sign and return a contract | PDF Editor | Signature pad, form detection, protected export |
| Build a form other people fill in | PDF Editor | Genuine AcroForm fields: text, checkbox, radio, dropdown |
| Design an invoice, certificate or flyer | PDF Editor | Six templates, design fonts, tables, QR codes |
| Merge several PDFs while editing | PDF Editor | Add PDF appends whole files to the open document |
| Mark up a document with highlights and notes-style marks | Either | Both highlight; Edit PDF's marks snap to the text line |
| Permanently destroy hidden text | Neither | Use Redact PDF — covering is not destruction |
Meme Generator: Quick mode for speed, Studio for everything else
The third new tool is pure fun with a serious engine. Meme Generator opens in Quick mode: pick a template, type, download. Switch to Studio and the same canvas gains unlimited text boxes, stickers, layers, filters, drawing, multi-panel layouts — and an Animated panel that turns your own GIFs and short video clips into captioned GIF and MP4 memes. There is never a watermark, on any export, at any size.
Quick mode: template picked, both lines typed, ready to download — under a minute, no account, no watermark. Click the screenshot to make one.
Templates: the Top 100, your uploads, the whole web
The template grid is searchable and organised into Trending, Classics, Multi-panel, Favourites, Recent, a Community tab and your own templates. The live list is the public Top 100 meme-template catalogue (the same ranking Imgflip publishes), refreshed in your browser, and the 50 most iconic templates are bundled with the page itself, so the classics keep working even offline. Favourite the formats you reuse. Bring your own in four ways: upload any image as a template, paste an image with Ctrl+V, drag and drop a file anywhere on the canvas, or use the built-in web search to find a meme image and click it straight into the canvas. You can also share a template to the public Community library for everyone (images only, up to 5 MB — and please, the tool asks, no private photos).
Text that behaves like meme text should
Pick a template and the text boxes land where that format actually needs them — beside Drake, across the Expanding Brain tiers, under the Two Buttons — and the type auto-fits as you write. Double-click any text on the canvas to edit it in place; drag to move, corners to resize, top handle to rotate. Style presets cover the classic looks (Classic meme, Caption bar, Plain), and every text box can be styled individually:
- Eight fonts — Anton (Impact style), Archivo Black, Oswald, Montserrat, Comic Neue, Arial Black, Impact and Georgia
- Size, bold, italic, all-caps, left/centre/right alignment
- Text colour, outline colour and width, background box, shadow
- Line height, letter spacing, opacity, rotation (with quick 15° steps), flip horizontal/vertical
- Crop, duplicate, lock, bring forward / send backward
In Studio mode there is no cap on text boxes — add as many as the joke needs.
Studio: stickers, layers, panels, drawing and filters
Studio mode adds the full kit. Stickers and emoji, plus your own images on top (upload, paste or drag in). Multi-panel layouts: add a panel below or beside (same template, or blank). Shapes — rectangle, circle, line, arrow — and freehand drawing with brush colour and size plus a highlighter. A layers panel lists every object: click to select, reorder, toggle visibility, lock, rename or delete. Canvas tools cover the social sizes — Original, 1:1 Post, 4:5 Portrait, 9:16 Story, 16:9 Wide — background colour, top and bottom caption bars with bar colour control, and a border frame. Filters adjust brightness, contrast, saturation and blur, with one-click Black & White, Sepia and Invert — and a dedicated Deep Fry button for the classic over-saturated, crunchy look.
Studio mode: layers panel, stickers, drawing and filters around the same canvas. Click the screenshot to open the studio.
Animated memes: GIF and video
The Animated panel is the surprise feature. Upload an animated GIF (up to 30 MB) and it plays right on the canvas; add text and stickers as usual, and Export stamps them onto every frame of a looping GIF — or save the first frame as a PNG. Upload a video (MP4, WebM or MOV, up to 200 MB), trim it with start and end times, place captions over the frame on the canvas, and export an MP4 with your whole layout burned in, or a GIF of the clip. Video exports are capped at 60 seconds, and animated exports run entirely in your browser on a single-thread engine — roughly a minute for a 10-second clip is normal, so keep the tab open. Animated templates are not bundled (famous GIF templates are other people's clips), so this panel works with GIFs and videos you bring yourself.
Exporting and your saved memes
Still memes download as PNG, JPG or WebP at 1×, 2× or Original resolution — or copy straight to the clipboard, or share. One honest technical note: large photos are scaled to a 900-pixel working canvas for standard exports; choose Original size to export at full template resolution. Your drafts, favourites and saved memes live in your own browser storage (the "My memes" shelf), never on a server — download anything you want to keep, because clearing site data removes them. And the template caveat, stated plainly by the tool itself: the meme you make is yours to share, but the underlying photo in a famous template can still belong to its photographer or studio, so think twice before using a recognisable still in paid advertising.
A worked example
A team lead wants a Drake meme for the sprint chat: Drake rejecting "reply-all to the whole company", approving "a two-line message in the channel". She picks Drake Hotline Bling, types both lines into the two pre-placed boxes, downloads the PNG and drops it in the chat — under a minute, no account, no watermark in the corner.
"Fully free, unlimited usage" — what that actually means here
All three tools carry the same promise on their own pages, and it is worth spelling out because "free" often means "trial" elsewhere:
- No sign-up. No account, no email wall, no login to create before you can work.
- No daily limits. No credits, no "3 free exports per day", no queue. Edit the fiftieth PDF or make the hundredth meme the same way as the first.
- No watermarks. Not on PDFs, not on memes, not at any export size.
- Nothing is uploaded. All three tools run entirely in your browser; your PDFs, photos, signatures and even the password you set never leave your device. Close the tab and the session is gone.
The limits that do exist are technical, not commercial — and they are stated on the tools' pages and in this report rather than discovered at a paywall: very large PDFs are bounded by your device's memory; meme GIF uploads cap at 30 MB and video uploads at 200 MB, with video meme exports capped at 60 seconds; and standard meme exports work on a 900-pixel canvas unless you choose Original size. Unlimited usage, honestly bounded physics.
Which of the three should you open first?
| You want to… | Open |
|---|---|
| Fix a typo, move a logo, delete a stray line in a PDF | Edit PDF |
| Fill in, sign and protect a contract or agreement | PDF Editor |
| Create an invoice, certificate, resume or flyer as a PDF | PDF Editor |
| Build a form with fields other people can fill in | PDF Editor |
| Merge PDFs while tidying the pages | PDF Editor |
| Make a quick meme for a chat or post | Meme Generator — Quick mode |
| Make a layered, multi-panel or deep-fried meme | Meme Generator — Studio mode |
| Caption a GIF or a short video clip | Meme Generator — Animated panel |
All three sit inside a toolbox that now runs to more than ninety free tools — converters, calculators, colour tools, SEO utilities and a full shelf of single-purpose PDF tools (merge, split, compress, sign, watermark, redact, protect and more) for the days when you only need one job done. The three in this report are the new flagships: the ones that replace a stack of separate apps.
Frequently asked questions
Are the PDF Editor, Edit PDF and Meme Generator really free, with unlimited usage?
Yes. All three are fully free: no sign-up, no accounts, no daily limits or credits, and no watermarks on anything you export. The only limits are technical — your device's memory for very large PDFs, a 30 MB cap on GIF uploads and 200 MB on video uploads in the Meme Generator, and a 60-second cap on video meme exports.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. All three tools run entirely in your browser. Your PDFs, images, signatures and passwords never leave your device, and closing the tab wipes the session. Meme drafts and saved memes live in your own browser storage, not on a server.
What is the difference between PDF Editor and Edit PDF?
Edit PDF is the quick visual editor: hover any element on the page — text, images, shapes — click to select it, and move, resize, recolour or delete it. PDF Editor (PDF Studio) is the complete workshop: everything annotation and design related, plus templates, genuine fillable form fields, signatures, QR codes, tables, merging, watermark and page-number stamping, and password-protected export. For a small fix, open Edit PDF; for a document job, open PDF Studio.
Can these editors change text that is already inside a PDF?
Yes, by the cover-and-replace method every browser editor uses: the original line is covered and an editable copy is placed over it in a matching size and (in Edit PDF) the closest standard font. Visually the change is complete, but the covered original still exists underneath — so for permanent destruction of content, use the Redact PDF tool instead.
Can PDF Editor create a form that other people can fill in?
Yes — the fields it adds are genuine fillable AcroForm fields (text, multiline, checkbox, radio and dropdown, plus signature and date fields) that work in any PDF reader. The studio also detects existing fillable forms when a PDF opens.
Does the Meme Generator add a watermark or limit how many memes I can make?
Never a watermark, at any size or format, and there is no limit on how many memes you can create or download. Exports are PNG, JPG or WebP at 1×, 2× or original resolution, and the Animated panel can also export GIFs and MP4s from your own clips.
Can I make animated GIF or video memes?
Yes. Upload an animated GIF and your text and stickers are stamped onto every frame, or upload a short MP4, WebM or MOV clip (up to 200 MB), trim it to the moment (exports up to 60 seconds), place captions in the studio, and export an MP4 with the captions burned in or a looping GIF. Animated exports run in your browser, so a 10-second clip can take around a minute.
