Preparing for a meeting, you highlight the three clauses of a contract that need discussion — yellow for the dates, pink for the money — and send the marked copy round before anyone arrives.
Each drag becomes a translucent rectangle drawn over that exact region of the page, in the colour you picked, using the transparency the PDF format defines — so the text underneath stays readable and selectable, and the highlight prints like a real marker pen’s. When the page has a text layer, your drag snaps to the text lines it covers — one tidy mark per line, aligned to the words themselves, and listed as “snapped to text”. On pages without text (scans, photos) placement is by region, exactly where you drag.

Yes — type the word in the Find bar above the page and click Highlight all. Every match in the document is highlighted in your current colour, and Clear finds removes just those marks.
Yes — the History panel can copy your highlights or download them as a text or Markdown file, grouped by page. Highlights snapped to text, notes and stamps are included; freehand strokes have no text to list.
Underlines and strikethroughs that snap to the text, highlighter, marker, brush and pencil strokes, shapes with an optional fill, solid hide boxes, stamps such as APPROVED and CONFIDENTIAL, and small text notes — all from the rail on the left.
