The tariff (§32a EStG)

Tax-free to €12,348; then two progressive formula zones to €69,878 (14% rising to 42%), 42% flat to €277,825, 45% above — the exact Programmablaufplan 2026 coefficients, with income and tax rounded down to whole euros as the law requires. Married joint assessment splits: tax = 2 × tariff on half the joint taxable income.

Taxable income

Gross minus the €1,230 employee lump sum (Werbungskostenpauschale), the €36 special-expenses lump sum, and deductible provision costs (pension contributions in full for 2026 plus your health and care contributions) — the standard Vorsorgepauschale approach; itemised deductions can only improve it.

Social contributions & Soli

Employee shares 2026: pension 9.3% and unemployment 1.3% (capped at €101,400), health 8.75% at the official average supplementary rate and care 0.8–2.4% by children (capped at €69,750). Soli: nothing while income tax is under €20,350 (€40,700 joint), then the 11.9% phase-in caps it below the full 5.5%. Church tax, where selected, is charged on income tax; its deductibility is not modelled.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my Soli zero?

Since the 2021 reform most employees pay no Soli at all: it only starts once your income tax passes €20,350 (single), and phases in gently from there.

Is this the same as my Lohnsteuer payslip?

Very close: payroll uses the same tariff monthly (tax classes approximate the annual result). Class III/IV splits, private health insurance and itemised deductions can move the exact figure — the annual assessment settles it.

Most employees pay no Soli: it starts only above €20,350 of income tax (€40,700 joint).

Frequently asked questions

Is this the official tariff?

Yes — the coefficients are the BMF Programmablaufplan 2026’s, applied to taxable income rounded down to whole euros as §32a requires.

Why is my Soli zero?

The Freigrenze exempts income tax up to €20,350 (single) entirely, and the 11.9% phase-in keeps it small well above that.
