An increase from 100 to 125 is 25%. Reversing the comparison gives a decrease of 20%, not 25%. Applying the same 25% rise a second time reaches 156.25 — a 56.25% total rise — and reverse mode recovers the original 100 from 125 at +25%.
Change = (new − original) / |original| × 100.
