Hourly to Salary Calculator

FIN·11

Turn an hourly rate into a real salary — every pay period, overtime included — or work backwards from a salary to the hour. Everything updates as you type, and nothing leaves your browser.

Mode
Weeks you take off without pay — they come out of the year, not just the calendar.
Under the US Fair Labor Standards Act, hours past 40 a week are normally paid at time and a half. Overtime hours only count while this is on.

Estimate only: gross pay before tax and deductions. Overtime treatment follows the US Fair Labor Standards Act (1.5× past 40 hours a week); salaried staff who are exempt from the FLSA are not owed overtime. Last updated October 2026.

UNDERSTAND YOUR RESULTS

Hourly to Salary Calculator — Every Pay Period, Overtime Included guide

Convert an hourly rate into an annual, monthly, weekly and daily salary — or work backwards from a salary to the hour — with overtime at time and a half, unpaid weeks, a raise simulator and a side-by-side offer comparison.

How to use this tool

  1. Choose the direction: hourly to salary, or salary to hourly.
  2. Enter the rate (or the salary), your hours per week, weeks per year and any unpaid vacation weeks.
  3. If you regularly work extra hours, add them as overtime and switch on the 1.5× toggle — under US rules, hours past 40 a week are normally paid at time and a half.
  4. Read every pay period at once, then use the raise simulator and the offer comparison before you negotiate.

A worked example

At $28 an hour, 40 hours a week, 52 weeks a year, the salary is $58,240 — $4,853 a month, $1,120 a week, $224 a day. At $20 an hour with 5 overtime hours a week switched on, the year pays $49,400 instead of $41,600. Working backwards, a $75,000 salary over the standard 2,080-hour year is $36.06 an hour.

How it works

The engine builds the year from the week: weekly pay is the rate times your regular hours, plus any overtime hours at 1.5 times the rate when overtime is on, and the year is that weekly figure times your paid weeks — weeks per year minus unpaid vacation. Every other period is the same money sliced differently: a twelfth of the year for monthly, two weeks for biweekly, eight hours for a day. Salary to hourly runs it in reverse, spreading the salary over the weighted hours (regular hours plus 1.5 per overtime hour) so overtime is priced in rather than averaged away.

Frequently asked questions

How do I turn an hourly rate into a salary?

Multiply the rate by your hours per week, then by your paid weeks per year. At $28 an hour, 40 hours a week and 52 paid weeks that is 28 × 40 × 52 = $58,240. The calculator does it live and also splits the result into monthly, biweekly, weekly and daily figures.

What is the 2,080-hour year?

The standard full-time year: 40 hours a week for 52 weeks. Salary-to-hourly conversions are usually quoted against it — $75,000 ÷ 2,080 = $36.06 an hour. If you take unpaid weeks off, your real divisor is smaller and your true hourly rate is higher; the reverse table on the page uses your own hours.

How does unpaid vacation change the answer?

An unpaid week is a week with no pay cheque, so it comes straight out of the year. Two unpaid weeks at $28 an hour and 40 hours a week remove $2,240 — the salary falls from $58,240 to $56,000, even though the hourly rate never changed. Paid vacation does not affect the calculation at all.

Is overtime always paid at time and a half?

In the US, the Fair Labor Standards Act requires 1.5× the regular rate for hours past 40 in a week for non-exempt employees. Exempt salaried staff — many professional roles — are not covered. Other countries set their own premiums or none; the toggle lets you include overtime at 1.5× or leave it out entirely.
