Work out exactly what Etsy takes from one sale: the $0.20 listing fee per item, the 6.5% transaction fee, your country’s regulatory operating fee and Etsy Payments processing fee, and the Offsite Ads fee if the sale came through one — itemised row by row, with what you receive and the effective fee %. Rates are Etsy’s own published schedule from help.etsy.com — fees checked 29 October 2026.
A US seller sells one $30 item with $5 shipping charged to the buyer. The order total is $35. Listing fee $0.20; transaction fee 6.5% × $35 = $2.28 (shown unrounded as $2.275 in the maths); regulatory operating fee $0 — the US has none; Etsy Payments processing 3% × $35 + $0.25 = $1.30. Total fees $3.78, you receive $31.22, an effective fee rate of about 10.79%. The same sale for a UK seller costs more: add a 0.48% regulatory fee ($0.17) and 4% + £0.20 processing (£1.60), for total fees of £4.24 and £30.76 received. Fees checked 29 October 2026 against Etsy’s official help pages.
All percentage fees except the listing fee are charged on the order total: item price × quantity + shipping charged to the buyer. Listing fee = $0.20 USD × quantity (Etsy publishes it in USD and converts it for non-USD payment accounts). Transaction fee = 6.5% of the order total. Regulatory operating fee, by seller country: Canada 0.50%, France 1.14%, Italy 0.80%, Spain 0.88%, UK 0.48%, and none published for the US, Germany or Australia. Etsy Payments processing, by bank-account country: US 3% + $0.25, UK 4% + £0.20, Germany/France/Italy/Spain 4% + €0.30, Australia 3% + A$0.25 on domestic orders (4% on international), Canada 3% + C$0.25 on domestic and US orders (4% on other international orders) — the calculator uses the domestic rates. Offsite Ads = 15% or 12% of the order total, capped at $100 USD per order. You receive = order total − total fees. It depends on your country and the sale, but a US seller with no ads pays the $0.20 listing fee plus 6.5% transaction plus 3% + $0.25 processing on the order total — about 10.8% on a $35 order, and a higher effective percentage on smaller orders because the fixed fees weigh more. This calculator adds your own country’s regulatory fee on top where Etsy charges one.
Yes. The transaction fee, regulatory operating fee, processing fee and Offsite Ads fee are all calculated on the order total, which includes the shipping you charge the buyer (and gift wrap, if you charge for it). Only genuinely free shipping keeps postage out of the fee base — which is why “free shipping” listings are not as free as they look.
A small percentage Etsy charges sellers in certain countries on the item price plus shipping, introduced as regulation raised its cost of operating there. Current official rates: France 1.14%, Spain 0.88%, Italy 0.80%, Canada 0.50%, UK 0.48% — and no regulatory fee for sellers in the US, Germany or Australia. It appears as its own line in your payment account.
If a buyer clicks an Offsite Ad (Etsy advertising your item on Google, social media and partner sites) and buys within 30 days, Etsy charges a percentage of that order total: 15% if your shop made under $10,000 USD in the previous 365 days, 12% if it made $10,000 or more — capped at $100 USD per order. Shops over the $10,000 line cannot opt out of Offsite Ads.
Etsy Payments processing varies by the country of your bank account, not the buyer’s: 3% + $0.25 in the US, 4% + £0.20 in the UK, 4% + €0.30 across most of the eurozone, and in Australia and Canada a lower domestic rate (3%) with a higher 4% rate on international orders. This calculator uses each country’s domestic rate and says so on the page.
With no item price and no shipping there is no order to charge percentages on, so totals and the effective fee % show a dash instead of a made-up number. Add a price and the full breakdown appears.
