See what Amazon keeps from one sale before you price it: the referral fee for your category (with its tiered rates and $0.30 minimum where Amazon sets one), the selling-plan fee, and the media closing fee where it applies. Referral fees are charged on the total sales price — item price plus any shipping you charge the buyer — exactly as Amazon defines it. Everything updates live in your browser.

Work out what Amazon keeps from a sale before you set the price: the referral fee for your category — flat, whole-price tiered or portion-tiered exactly as Amazon’s schedule defines it, with the $0.30 per-item minimum referral fee where it applies — plus the Individual plan’s $0.99 per-item fee or the Professional plan’s flat monthly cost, and the $1.80 closing fee on media. You see total Amazon fees, what you receive and the effective fee %. FBA fulfilment and storage fees are NOT estimated: they depend on size tier and weight, so this calculator says so plainly instead of inventing a number. A $100 electronics item on the Individual plan, with no shipping charged: Consumer Electronics pays a flat 8% referral fee, so the referral fee is $100 × 8% = $8.00 (above the $0.30 minimum, so the minimum does not bite). The Individual plan adds $0.99 for the item. Total Amazon fees = $8.00 + $0.99 = $8.99, you receive $100 − $8.99 = $91.01, and the effective fee is 8.99% of the sale. The same item on Professional would carry no per-item plan fee — Professional only wins once the $39.99 monthly fee is spread over roughly 40 or more items a month.
Referral fee = the category percentage applied to the total sales price (item price + shipping charged + any gift-wrap charge), then raised to the category’s per-item minimum referral fee if the percentage alone comes out lower — $0.30 on most categories, and no minimum listed for media or grocery on Amazon’s table. Three tier shapes exist in the official schedule and the calculator keeps them distinct: flat (one % of the whole price, e.g. Electronics 8%, Home and Kitchen 15%); whole-price tiers, where the band the total falls in sets the rate for the entire sale (Clothing: 5% at $15 or less, 10% above $15 up to $20, 17% above $20); and portion tiers, where each rate applies only to the slice of price in its band (Jewelry: 20% on the portion up to $250, 5% above). Plan fee: Individual $0.99 per item sold; Professional $39.99 per month with no per-item fee, modelled here as $0 for a single item with the monthly cost stated. Media items (books, DVD, music, software, video games) add a $1.80 closing fee per item. Total fees = referral + plan + closing; you receive = total sales price − total fees; effective % = total fees ÷ total sales price × 100. Amazon’s commission on a sale: a percentage of the total sales price — item price plus shipping and gift-wrap charges — set by category. Most everyday categories sit between 8% and 15%: Electronics and Computers 8%, Automotive 12%, Home and Kitchen, Toys, Sports and Books 15%. A per-item minimum referral fee, usually $0.30, applies when the percentage alone would be smaller. Source: sell.amazon.com/pricing, checked 29 October 2026.
Individual charges $0.99 per item sold and no monthly fee; Professional charges $39.99 a month and no per-item fee. The break-even is $39.99 ÷ $0.99 ≈ 40 items a month: sell fewer and Individual is cheaper, sell more and Professional is — before counting Professional-only features like bulk listing tools and advertising eligibility.
Media categories — books, DVD, music, software and video games — pay the 15% referral fee plus a fixed $1.80 closing fee per item, per Amazon’s official schedule. It is why a cheap paperback can lose a far bigger share to fees than its 15% headline suggests: on a $5 book the closing fee alone is 36% of the price.
Yes. Amazon defines the fee base as the total sales price, and its pricing page states that a total price includes the item price plus shipping costs and gift-wrap charges. Charging the buyer $5 for shipping does not add $5 to your pocket — at a 15% referral rate, $0.75 of it goes straight back in fees.
No — deliberately. FBA fulfilment fees are per-unit charges set by size tier and weight, and storage is charged by volume and time, so there is no honest one-size estimate. This calculator covers the fees every seller pays (referral, plan, closing). If you use FBA, take the total here and add Amazon’s FBA fees for your product’s size tier from the official FBA pricing page.
Because Clothing is a whole-price tier in Amazon’s schedule: 5% for items priced $15 or less, 10% above $15 up to $20, and 17% above $20 — and the band your price falls in sets the rate for the entire sale, unlike Jewelry or Furniture where the higher rate applies only to the portion above the threshold. It creates dead bands just above $15 and $20 where a small price rise leaves you with less than pricing at the threshold.
