A designer exports a 1024 × 1024 app logo as a PNG, drops it in, and thirty seconds later the site has a favicon.ico carrying 16, 32 and 48 px, matching PNGs for modern browsers, a 180 px Apple touch icon for iPhone home screens, and 192/512 px Android icons — the full set a browser, phone and search result can ask for, from one upload.
The source image is centre-cropped to a square and redrawn on a browser canvas at each required size: 16, 32 and 48 px versions are embedded as PNG entries inside a genuine multi-resolution .ico file (the format Windows and browsers have used for decades), while the 180, 192 and 512 px versions are exported as standalone PNGs. The Apple touch icon is flattened onto white, because iOS fills transparent areas with black. Everything is assembled locally and zipped in your browser.
The set in this pack covers it: a multi-size favicon.ico (16/32/48) for classic browsers and tabs, 16 and 32 px PNGs for modern browsers, a 180 × 180 Apple touch icon for iOS home screens, and 192/512 px icons for Android and progressive web apps.
iOS does not respect transparency in home-screen icons — it fills transparent pixels with black, which ruins most logos. Flattening onto white is the safe, standard choice. If your brand needs a different background, bake it into the image you upload.
Yes — browsers read SVG images fine, and the generator rasterises it at each size. Upload the SVG for the crispest possible source. Just note the pack itself is PNG and ICO, because favicon formats are raster formats.
Put the unzipped icons where your site can reach them (the snippet assumes the site root, e.g. /favicon.ico — adjust the paths if you use a subfolder), and paste the <link> lines into the <head> of your pages, or into your theme’s header template.
Almost always caching: browsers hold on to favicons harder than any other asset. Hard-refresh with Ctrl+Shift+R, open the icon’s URL directly to confirm the new file is being served, and give search results a few days to update.
