Currency Converter — Live Exchange Rates for 160+ Currencies guide

Convert any amount between more than 160 world currencies at live mid-market exchange rates — US dollars to Pakistani rupees, euros, pounds, Indian rupees, UAE dirhams and everything in between. If the live feed cannot be reached, the converter falls back to a built-in rate table from October 2026 so it always gives you an answer.

How to use this tool

  1. Enter the amount you want to convert in the Amount box — results update as you type.
  2. Pick the source currency in the From list and the target currency in the To list. Type in the search box above either list to filter by code or currency name, for example “PKR” or “rupee”.
  3. Read the converted result together with both rate lines: what 1 unit of the From currency buys in the To currency, and the inverse.
  4. Use the Swap button to reverse the pair instantly, or tap a Popular pair chip (USD → PKR, EUR → USD, AED → PKR and more) to load that pair.
  5. Check the stamp above the converter: “Live rates” with an update date means fresh rates are in use; “Offline rates (October 2026)” means the built-in fallback table is being used because the live feed was unavailable.
  6. Look at the majors table under the converter to see the same amount expressed in USD, EUR, GBP, PKR, INR and AED at once.

A worked example

100 US dollars to Pakistani rupees: at the built-in October 2026 rate of 1 USD = 276.71 PKR, 100 × 276.71 = 27,671 PKR. Cross rates work the same way through the dollar — 250 euros to pounds is (250 ÷ 0.8973) × 0.7511 = 209.27 GBP, because every rate in the table is stored as units per 1 USD.

What you can do with this tool

How it works

All rates are stored relative to the US dollar (units per 1 USD), so any pair is converted as amount ÷ rate[from] × rate[to]. Live rates come from the free Exchange Rate API (open.er-api.com), which republishes mid-market rates aggregated from financial sources; a successful fetch is cached in your browser for up to 24 hours and refreshed in the background on your next visit. If the fetch fails or times out after 5 seconds, the converter uses its built-in table of 25 major currencies dated October 2026 and labels it as offline rates.

Frequently asked questions

How many currencies can I convert?

With live rates, more than 160 currencies — every currency the Exchange Rate API publishes, each with its code and full name in the dropdowns. In offline mode the built-in table covers 25 major currencies including USD, EUR, GBP, PKR, INR, AED, SAR and JPY.

Where do the live exchange rates come from?

From the free Exchange Rate API at open.er-api.com, fetched directly by your browser when the page loads. The stamp above the converter shows “Live rates · updated” with the date from the API response, so you always know how fresh the numbers are.

What happens if the live rates fail to load?

The converter switches to its built-in rate table (October 2026) and the stamp changes to “Offline rates (October 2026) — live rates unavailable”. Conversions keep working; the values are close estimates rather than today’s exact market rate.

Is 1 USD really 276.71 PKR?

That was the mid-market rate in late October 2026 used by the built-in fallback table (cross-checked against published interbank rates). The live rate moves every day, so when the stamp says “Live rates”, trust that figure over the fallback example.

Why is the amount I receive from a bank lower?

The converter shows the mid-market rate — the midpoint between buy and sell prices on the global market. Banks and exchange shops buy slightly below and sell slightly above that rate, and may add transfer fees, so your received amount is normally a little lower.

Does the converter store my amounts?

No. Amounts are never sent anywhere or saved. The only thing stored in your browser is the last successful live rate table, cached for up to 24 hours so repeat visits load instantly.
