Your pawn reached the last rank — choose its new piece (FIDE: Q, R, B or N, as part of the same move).
This game enforces the full Laws of Chess — illegal moves are simply never offered, so no illegal move can be played.
Touch-move is not enforced — selecting a piece only highlights its legal squares, which is standard for casual online chess.
100% free · No sign-up · No daily limits · No watermarks · Processed in your browser — files never leave your device
The game of kings in 3D, free in your browser, with the full FIDE Laws of Chess enforced on every move. Play against the computer at four strengths, pass-and-play on one device, or create an online room: you get a Play link for a friend and a Watch link for spectators. Real chess clocks, draw offers, take backs, and a PGN export of every game. No sign-up.
Two old friends in different cities: one creates a room at 10+0 rapid, sends the Play link by message and drops the Watch link in the family chat. His brother watches every move live from his phone, the game swings on a pawn promotion in the last minute of the clock, and the loser copies the PGN, pastes it into his favourite analysis app and demands a rematch — same room, one tap.
The board and the wooden Staunton pieces are rendered in real 3D (WebGL, via the open-source Three.js library) and generated entirely in code — no downloaded models — with a flat 2D view one tap away. One rules engine, implementing the FIDE Laws (Articles 1–9 and Appendix C notation, 2023 edition), drives every mode, so a move that is illegal over the board is impossible here: castling through check is never offered, en passant exists only on the move after a two-square advance and is refused when it would expose your king, and the engine ends games automatically on fivefold repetition, 75 moves without a pawn move or capture, and dead positions where neither side can possibly mate. Draws by threefold repetition and the fifty-move rule can be claimed with the claim button when they apply. In online rooms the host browser is the referee: it validates every move and broadcasts the position, clocks and results to the other player and spectators through a realtime database connection.
Yes — completely free, with no sign-up and no limits on games, for players and spectators alike.
Yes. The engine implements the FIDE Laws of Chess: legal moves only, castling conditions, en passant, promotion to queen, rook, bishop or knight, checkmate and stalemate, draw claims for repetition and the fifty-move rule, automatic draws at fivefold repetition and 75 moves, and dead positions such as king against king.
No. Open the Play link, and you are in the other seat. If both seats are taken, the Play link makes you a spectator instead.
Yes — every online room has a separate Watch link. Spectators see the board, clocks and every move live, but cannot move anything.
You lose on time — unless your opponent cannot possibly checkmate you with any series of legal moves (for example they have a bare king), in which case the game is a draw, exactly as the FIDE Laws provide.
Yes. Copy PGN on the end screen puts the full game score in standard algebraic notation on your clipboard, ready to paste into any chess app, and Share uses your device share sheet where available.
